Did Kelly Pavlik Knock Lockett Into an Early Retirement?

After coming to America only to have his hopes of becoming a world champion completely shattered by a power punching specter, the  31 yr old Gary Lockett has had some time to re-evaluate things.

It looks like Lockett's life flashed before his eyes during his last three rounds of boxing. "I am considering my future," said Lockett in an interview with BBC Sports. "I still have my faculties and I want to spend time with my family."

We knew Kelly Pavlik packed a serious punch, but apparently he hits so hard that it makes some people rework there life's plans. Lockett must have seen the light during his fight with The Ghost and at some point decided that he doesn't want to go through anything like that again.

We can't blame him for hanging it up - near death experiences usually result in unalterably changing a person's view on life (plus he finally got a decent payday).

Well, he wasn't really going to die, but he probably felt like it, enough to leave the sport that he has fought professionally in for twelve years.

"Every time he threw punches, it felt like he was making me pay"

Kelly Pavlik is Making the Move to Super MIddleweight to Fight Bernard Hopkins

Although it finally looks like we may see a Kelly Pavlik - Joe Calzaghe showdown in the future, in the mean time both fighters still have impending bouts to worry about before then. Calzaghe is signed and set to go against Jones, but Pavlik has been struggling to find an adequate opponent, that is until now.

We recently reported that the match-up with welterweight champ Paul Williams was close to being inked, and it was close, however as things often do in the sport of boxing, it fell through due to monitory issues.  The fight wouldn't generate enough of it.

After going through a fairly diverse list of welterweights, junior middles, and middleweights, that included Sergio Mora, Marco Antonio Rubio, Paul Williams, Randy Griffin and Winky Wright, The Ghost's camp decided on a light heavyweight of all things, former Ring champ and "legend," Bernard Hopkins.
Dan Rafael, from ESPN, broke the news this morning. "There's a deal, but there are a few details to be tied up," Arum said. "But the fight is happening."

Although this is definitely not Pavlik's first choice (or ours for that matter), this bout will be directly beneficial to Kelly in three ways.  (1) If he plans to take on Joe Calzaghe at super middleweight, this fight will be a perfect test at the higher weight (2) We will all be able to compare and contrast how Pavlik handles Hopkins as opposed to his counterpart Joe C. (3) If he defeats Hopkins, he scores a win over a legend of the sport, and although over-the-hill, he still shows up on many people's top ten pound-for-pound list.

With all that said, this is not and easy fight by any means. Hopkins will give anyone a tough time in the ring and "Kelly isn't thrilled with the fight, but if he is going to fight Calzaghe, it gets him ready for that fight," said Jack Loew, Pavlik's trainer.

Who can blame him though? Most fighters wouldn't even think of taking a fight with a crafty vet like Hopkins, who has the ability to make anyone look horrible in the ring, especially when there is not a belt on the line. But, Pavlik is showing that he is a true champ and is willing to take on whoever is put in front of him, unlike many of the fighters out there (eh hmm... Floyd).

The fight will take place at the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, N.J. and will be broadcast on HBO Pay-Per-View live October 18th.

Joe Calzaghe Now Willing to Fight Kelly Pavlik?

It's working.

The constant pressure from the fans and media seems to be slowly getting to the Welsh super middleweight and light heavyweight champ.  Just the past week, Joe Calzaghe made statements suggesting that he intended to hold on to his WBO super middlweight title (the belt that he defended 21 times for over ten years) and continue fighting after the Roy Jones Jr. bout (article).

The BBC reported earlier this morning that Calzaghe not only intends to defend his title, but could be planning to do it against the best middle weight in the world, Kelly Pavlik. "There is no way I am going to give up my WBO title.  If I beat Jones, I might move back down to super-middleweight to face Kelly Pavlik," said Joe C.

Thank you Joe, we take back anything negative that we have ever sent in your direction.

If Calzaghe's words hold up and these two actually step in the ring, win or lose, Calzaghe's credibility, likability and legacy will all take a turn for the better in the mind's of every American boxing fan.

Now Calzaghe's is really fighting for something in his next bout with Jones.  He is fighting for the fans and for boxing, he is fighting for the chance to set up one of the biggest fights in the past ten years - a showdown between the top two undefeated  160 and 168 pounders in the world.

Clazaghe Not Done After Jones?

According to Boxing News 24, Joe Calzaghe may be taking back his recent words of retirement.

Calaghe has informed the president of the WBO that he intends to defend his super middleweight title after the conclusion of the Roy Jones Jr. fight at Madison Square Garden, on September 20th.

Apparently the onslaught of media backlash (us included) that was directed his way after turning down a chance to fight middleweight champ, Kelly Pavlik, finally got to him.  There is no mention of who he would be fighting in his return to super middleweight, but it definitely leaves it open for a Calzaghe - Pavlik Showdown.

Kelly Pavlik vs. Paul Williams: Almost Inked?

As we reported earlier this week, Paul Williams (34-1, 25 Ko's) is one of the many prospects that the middleweight champ of the world has considered for his next defense.

According to Steve Kim from Max Boxing, the Williams fight is much closer to happening than we originally thought.  Names get tossed around so much as speculation it is hard to take anything at face value, but this one looks close to being sealed. Apparently Bob Arum and Dan Goossen have been in talks and are trying their best to get it done.

Williams is probably the best of the bunch named as possible opponents for the The Ghost.  He is lengthy (6'1"), much quicker than Kelly, and is a proven champion in the welterweight division.  With his frame, it won't be a problem moving to middleweight. There is a possibility that Williams may give Kelly some trouble, but Williams somewhat resembles a skinnier Jermain Taylor in terms of style and he wasn't able to get it done in two fights with The Ghost.

If it goes through we should be in for another exciting fight from Kelly Pavlik as early as September 27th.

The ESPY's: Fighter of the Year

Team Pavlik just informed us that voting for the ESPY's "Best Fighter" category is rapidly coming to a close.  July 12th is the final date the that any of you sports fans out there will be able to log on to ESPYS.tv and cast your ballot.

The "Best Fighter" category looks like it will defintely come down to a few votes.  The nominees are, as you may have guessed, (1) Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik, who in a career defining year, defeated middleweight champ Jermain Taylor twice and successfully defended his title against Gary Lockett.  (2) Floyd Mayweather Jr., who took down previously undefeated Ricky Hatton for the WBC welterweight title. (3) Joe Calzaghe, who became the undisputed super-middleweight champ after beating previously undefeated Mikel Kessler and also taking a close decision over Bernard Hopkins to become the Ring light heavyweight champ of the world. (4) Holly Holm, who claimed the IFBA welterweight title (no idea really about who she is, just stole that from the website). (5) George St. Pierre, who defeated Matt Sera for the UFC welterweight championship.

In reality, there are only three on here that should even get a vote, and hopefully you know who they are (hint: 1, 2, or 3). Go place a vote and while your at it check out all of the other categories.

The ESPY's are hosted by hillbilly-turned pop singer, turned actor, turned the guy who can score any chick he wants, Justin Timberlake, and will air on July 20th, at 9 pm ET.

Pavlik vs. Mora: No Go

Sergio Mora has weaseled his way out of another middleweight title shot. After turning down a bout with then undisputed middleweight champion Jermain Taylor, Mora added many more doubts to go along with his already shaky resume.  One would think that the reaction from fans and boxing media alone would have been enough to avoid another situation like the first. Wrong.

Bob Arum offered Mora $1.2 million to partake in a battle against the best middleweight in the world, Kelly Pavlik. Again he managed  his way out of a match he knowingly would lose, citing that the he could do it for no less than $1.5 million. Pavlik only made a mil more than that in his recent showing on HBO against Gary Lockett.  Where does Mora get off making demands against the top fighter in the U.S., in a fight that would give him a chance to be on the largest stage in boxing.

Arum said screw em' and is now considering a large stable of fighters for The Ghost's next opponent.  John Duddy was name that has been thrown around in the past, but that was debunked when just this past week he decided to drop to junior middleweight to take on Verno Phillips. Other names discussed have been Marco Antonio Rubio, Winky Wright, and by far the most intriguing, Paul Williams.

Williams is the 6'1" freak at welterweight who recently regained his WBO title after avenging his only loss with a first round KO over Carlos Quintana.  In his past fights he he had been struggling to make weight, so the jump to 160 shouldn't affect him in the ring.  Arum has already spoken with Williams promoter Dan Goosen, and they both agree this would be the best possible fight.  And we agree as well.  Make it happen boys.

Kelly Pavlik Reports Threat

This is when you know your famous.

Kelly The Ghost Pavlik reported a serious threat to the Boardman police on Monday stating that a former business partner directed some serious words toward the middleweight champ of the world. Someone from Pavlik's camp claims to have a voice recording of the gentlemen expressing that he would shoot Pavlik in the hands so he wouldn't be able to fight anymore (among other things).

The alleged threatener is Anthony Scandy who was previously associated with Pavlik in a quasi-manager/partner role.  He is in the process of suing Kelly for money that he believes should be coming his way from the first Jermain Taylor bout.

Its seems death threats and lawsuits are synonymous with boxing, so none of this is considered to be too far out of the ordinary.  However, Pavlik did say that the reason he reported this particular incident to the police was due to the fact that this Scandy character actually has the means (and stupidity) to actually do something like he suggested.

Scandy better hope his picture doesn't get released to the working class Pavlikers of Youngstown anytime in the near future, becuase if he sets foot in the buckeye state, he will be the one fearing for his life.

Roy Jones Jr. Accepts Calzaghe's Challenge

The BBC has reported that former number one pound-for-pound, multi-division champion, Roy Jones Jr., has accepted the challenge from the Welsh light heavyweight champ, Joe Calzaghe.

"Me and Joe are going to fight this fall and right now it's looking like September 20th," said Jones.

Despite the negativity surrounding this fight due to Calzaghe side stepping a chance to fight Kelly Pavlik, it should still be a decent match up. Both fighters are skilled and fast, needless to say quite a few punches will be thrown (even if some of them are open handed slaps from Calzaghe).  And we think Jones has a pretty good chance of ruining Calzaghe's final bow, which he again stated this fight will be.

"What a perfect way to finish, fighting one of the greats of this generation in what I expect to be my final fight before retirement," said the Welsh champ. "Not many fighters know to bow out at the right time, too many go on and on (wait, you mean like the one you picked to fight?) - it'll be the fight of my life."

So apparently all you Pavlikers out there will have to wait and see who his next victim will be. Maybe in the meantime Calzaghe will come to his senses and decide to step in the ring one more time after Jones, and partake in what really would be the fight of his life.

Old Man Calzaghe Reaffirms: No Pavlik Fight

Enzo Calazaghe told Setanta Sports that his son Joe will absolutely not meet Kelly Pavlik inside the ring.  We said in the past that we somewhat respected Joe's decision, but yesterday's rant by his father has got us second guessing ourselves.  See below.

From what could be deciphered from his Euro-Britalian jive, he basically said, that Kelly The Ghost Pavlik was not a top class fighter and doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as his son.

"I don't feel he [Pavlik] deserves a shot yet at the big-time.  On the back of one performance against a subdued, light fighter (his own pupil, Gary Lockett)... There is a vast, vast difference between Gary and Joe Calzaghe. Gary would be the first to say. It's chalk and cheese (whatever the hell that means)."

Wake up from your lucent dream buddy, Kelly Pavlik is as big as your going to get.

Enzo, we all know Gary Lockett is no Joe Calzaghe, but your son is not the untouchable deity that you are trying to make him out to be.  And the fighter that you trained (and just tossed under the short bus) got dominated more soundly than we have seen in some time by the man that you claim is not even a well known fighter.  If Kelly Pavlik, the undefeated top middleweight in the world, doesn't deserve a shot a Joe Calzaghe, then we don't know what fighter on the this green earth does.

It is clear that Joe Calzaghe wanted to end his career with an aesthetically pleasing win on paper over Roy Jones, who is rapidly approaching his expiration date in the sport.  Instead, all of this will do the exact opposite. He will be remembered for ducking the best possible fight for his own career advancement, because it is not how the symphony begins, but the finale that you remember the most.

For Joe Calzaghe to cement his legacy, he must fight Kelly Pavlik or admit that he doesn't want to step in the ring with the young gun from Youngstown out of fear of defeat.

Kelly will bide his time and continue to put pressure on the Calzaghe camp to take the fight. If it doesn't happen, it won't be a problem for The Ghost.  He is currently 26 yrs. old and has plenty of other options, the same cannot be said for his counterpart .

Joe C. will continue to press for his anti-climactic Roy Jones Jr. finale and in the meantime will be walking on water and turning water into wine - right Enzo?

Kelly Pavlik to fight Sergio Mora?

Since Joe Calzaghe has made it pretty clear that he wants none of The Ghost, the undisputed middleweight champion of the world will not be so quick to jump up to the super middleweight division.

It now seems that Pavlik's camp has their eyes set on a title defense against the feather-handed season one Contender Champion and new WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora. So yes Max Kellerman, The Ghost will stay at middleweight and "clean-up" the division as you so vigorously suggested after his last victory.

Mora is coming off a 12 round decision upset over the veteran Vernon Forrest this past month. Although he now holds the belt at junior middleweight, his natural fighting weight is at 160 lbs, and he has said that he would be willing to vacate his belt as soon as he gets a shot at the middleweight title.

With his recent victory comes two mandatory fights, a rematch owed to Forrest that was stipulated in the original contract and a defense against the WBC mandatory challenger. However, if he vacates the belt (which he has already said he will do), neither of the matches would have to occur and he will have no problem negotiating for the fight with Pavlik to take place in September or October.

Bob Arum, Kelly Pavlik's trainer said that he "called both HBO and Showtime to advise them of the situation and that it looks like we'll be going to a Mora fight."  Which means we apparently won't have to wait long to see The Pride of Youngstown back in the ring after his devastating display against Gary Lockett.

The unifying title match for Pavlik that everyone and there mother has been talking about since this past weekend when Arthur Abraham KO'd top contender Edison Miranda, will have to wait until 2009. Abraham will have his hands full with a mandatory title defense in the coming months.

Both Abraham and Pavlik have confirmed that they want the fight to happen, so there is no reason that it shouldn't, barring a loss from either fighter.

Calzaghe vs. Jones: Pavlik Not Gonna Happen

The BBC reported that Joe Calzaghe's promoter, Frank Warren,  is currently working out a deal with former pound-for-pound #1 fighter, Roy Jones Jr. The fight, that Calzaghe claims will be his last, should take place sometime this fall.

"Fighting the greatest fighter of the 1990's would be the perfect way to finish off my career... This is a case of famous last words, but I think that'll probably be it for me, so my message to my fans is enjoy it now because after this, it'll be the end."

Calzaghe has also ruled out the possiblilty of a meeting between himself and the undisputed middleweight champion, Kelly Pavlik.  Pavlik is coming off a dominating 3rd round TKO victory over Calzaghe's training partner Gary Lockett.

Joe admitted "that Pavlik is a good fighter and looked very impressive against Gary, but I'm in a different league" (money where the mouth is Joe).  " Kelly is just establishing himself and is not as big a star as Roy Jones, he's a legend."

So, it seems that Calzaghe will end his career with a victory over another over-the-hill fighter whose name will look great on his undefeated resume.  We do respect his decision to retire at age 37, having accomplished a great deal in his long career.  But, it's too bad that he is opting out of what could have been the fight of the decade.

Kelly Pavlik vs Gary Lockett Recap

Just another day on the job for America's talented young phenom , Kelly The Ghost Pavlik.  As if he was hammering away at sheets of metal in one of Youngstown's steel factories, Kelly repeatedly pounded Gary Lockett until he was completely flattened.
Half way into the third round, Enzo Calzaghe tossed in the universal sign of surrender after witnessing his fighter get knocked to the canvas three times and receive a healthy dose of punishment.  (See highlights)

The fight seemed to go exactly as planned for Pavlik who looked better than ever, connecting with punches from every angle on his way to an easy TKO victory. He put constant pressure on Lockett, landed a steady barrage of punches, and neutralized Lockett's supposed KO power with his lengthy frame.
It looks like the undefeated champ Arthur Abraham will be the next possible opponent for The Ghost (if he takes care of Edison Miranda on the 21st). As for Joe Calzaghe, it seems that he will be dancing with Roy Jones Jr. in the near future.  If those fights go as planned, then we will hopefully see the two face off in one of the biggest fights of the decade.

Undercard: In the first round of the fight, Daniel Ponce De Leon was dropped by a right hook and relinquished his title to the undefeated young-stud of the division, Jaun Manuel Lopez. (Highlights)

Something for the Weekend Sir? Saturday Night Fights Preview

We cancelled all plans for this Saturday night based primarily on two reasons.  1.)  HBO and Showtime will be transmitting four outstanding boxing matches directly to the comfort of our living rooms   2.) Second and more importantly, my new roommate refuses to go to the cable company with me to pick up a DVR box for the house (cable bill's in his name and the damn company refuses to grant me access to the account, I've tried)

With that said, there should be a mandate that forbids HBO and Showtime to hold major boxing events that fall on the same day of the lunar calendar.  Space em' out a little, so every weekend we can enjoy a good match or two instead of just crammin' it all in to one.  You would think that two of the largest television companies would have this worked out to prevent them from having to worry about competition from the other guy.

Anyway, I think HBO wins this battle and, it seems this weekend's under-cards may be more exciting than the main events - here is this weekend's preview.

HBO
Kelly The Ghost Pavlik (33-0,  30 Ko's) vs Gary The Pocket Rocket Lockett (30-1, 21 Ko's) - The Pride of Youngstown, Kelly Pavlik, is currently the undisputed, undefeated, middleweight champion of the world. He is coming off a huge KO victory over #1 middleweight contender (at the time) in Edison Miranda and back-to-back dominate performances against the former undefeated, undisputed, best middleweight in the world, Jermain Taylor (not anymore; see Pavlik KO video here).
Gary Lockett is coming off a fight against Kai Kauramaki, who is 13-15 with 9 of his losses coming by way of knock-out. Some seriously stiff competition there Lockett, excellent tune-up before getting in there with the best middleweight in the world.

Lockett's record looks pretty on paper but it does not carry a single win of any significance.
- Pavlik KO's Lockett within 6 rounds-

The real story line in this fight lies in the identity of Lockett's trainer - one Enzo Calzaghe. You can bet Joe will be sitting ringside to see one of his training 'mates' getting his clock cleaned by The Ghost, setting up a possible super-fight between the two down the line.

On Wednesday, Kelly discussed his thoughts on the current light heavyweight and super middleweight champ Joe Calzaghe with Max Kellerman. He was seemed as confident as I am about the outcome of a potential mega-fight with Joe C., another victory for Youngstown's finest.

Daniel Ponce De Leon (34-1, 30 Ko's) vs Juan Manuel Lopez (21-0, 19 Ko's) - The two meet on the under-card of the Pavlik/Lockett fight for the WBO super bantam weight title. Ponce De Leon will try to fend off up-and-coming Lopez in a high action, exciting, and closely matched bout -possibly the most interesting fight of the night. Do not miss this one.

Showtime
Vernon Forrest (40-2, 29 Ko's) vs. Sergio The Latin Snake Mora (20-0-1, 5 Ko's)
Don't expect to be writing home after this WBC light middleweight title bout. Vernon Forrest is coming off a long layoff due to an injury and, at age 37,  isn't getting any younger.  Sergio Mora is coming off a few recent fights that were mediocre at best, one of which he should have lost but was awarded a mercy decision (against Elvin Ayala).  And the begging for a shot at a title then turning down a championship bout against Jermain Taylor a few years back caused him to lose the little credibility that he once had.

Neither fighter is a big puncher and both will be looking to go the distance for a decision. If you have to pick one to DVR, you're looking at it.

Paul The Punisher Williams (33-1, 24 Ko's) vs. Carlos Quintana (25-1, 19 Ko's) - Paul Williams will attempt to reclaim the WBO welterweight championship from the man who took it from him and handed him his only loss.

Before the somewhat stunning upset at the beginning of the year, Williams was considered by many to be the top welterweight in the division and a direct threat to Floyd Mayweather (he was obviously overrated).  Coming off a win against the always tough Antonio Margarito, Williams looked ready to sit atop the division until Quintana exposed the lengthy boxer's weaknesses and took the belt from him. Quintana is no slouch though, his only loss came when he managed to get his face beat in by Miguel Cotto in a 5th round stoppage.

If Williams overlooked Quintana the first time, it will not happen again on Saturday.  Look for him to come out fighting for his life to regain his belt. Should be a good one.

Mundine Retains WBA Belt

Anthony Mundine (32-3, 23 KOs) retained his WBA super middleweight belt this past week by defeating fellow countryman Sam Soliman (35-11, 13 KOs).

Congratulations Mundine, you managed to hold on to your belt by facing another nobody in Sam Soliman, who you have already beat once before.

Sam Soliman as many of you will remember is the hard working and well conditioned boxer from The Contender, who displays little to no boxing skill in any of his bouts.  The two of them met before in 2007 for the vacant WBA title which Mundine still holds.  Which begs the question, how did the WBA match these guys up for the a vacant belt. I might as well have put my name in the drawing.

Mundine has about as many quality wins as most of the club fighters around the country.  His only notable victory was over a "sickly" (by his own account) Danny Green, who was undefeated at the time.  The only other quality fight was against Mikel Kessler, who dominated him for a wide unanimous decision.

There has been talk of Mundine wanting to set up a match with The Ghost, Kelly Pavlik.  I would venture to guess that would not be a wise career choice on his part.  The only way he is going to hold on to his current title is if he continues to fight chumps like Sam Soliman and stays close to home in the Outback where the level of competition suits him better. Since everyone and their mother is now calling out Pavlik, the fight may never happen. However, I don't think I would mind if the two did end up meeting in the ring - just another chance for Pavlik to collect some more easy hardware for his mantle piece.

Don King Presents: Prize Fighter 2k Sports

Since Nintendo's mega-hit Mike Tyson's Punch Out!, the Electronic Arts (EA) Sports brand has had a stronghold on the boxing video game industry with it's popular Fight Night series.  I had been hearing rumors about a game to be released by EA's competitor, 2K Sports, that would challenge the champ for the title of number one boxing game.  I almost forgot about the production of the game until during one of my various internet expeditions at work, I found a video of a semi-embalmed crack pimp yelling at me about his new boxing game.

Don King, the most corrupt, obnoxious, infamous and loud figure in boxing for as long as I can remember was rambling about the release of his new video game entitled, Don King Presents: Prizefighter.  My eyes slowly crept to the bottom right hand corner of the page, praying (i'm not normally religious) that only one logo was not present. It was.  2K Sports.

Somewhere between the time I had first read about the idea of the game and its actual conception, some idiot at 2K Sports thought it would be a good idea to get the life-sized, fully pose-able  troll doll involved. The only thought I could manage to conjure was that this game was doomed for failure (unless of-course the goal was to create a game simulating fixing boxing events, signing fighter to bogus contracts, embezzling money, scoring prostis, free-basing, straight pimpin', slappin' hoes or any other criminal activity that comes to mind)

I took into consideration my negative outlook surrounding the game, watched the trailer (see here), did a little research,  and I came to the realization that the game actually looks pretty good. For starters, one of the screen shots (above) perfectly depicts King as the Devil reincarnate. The next logical step was to see which fighters will appear in the game.  The site says, and I quote "...current champs like Joe Calzaghe, Kelly Pavlik and Andrew Golata" (the
two were the names I was looking for, but Andrew Golota? may be digging a little to deep into the bottom of the barrel and how come only white guys?).  The site also lists all-time greats like Joe Louis, Ken Norton, and The Cinderella Man James Bradick. (the trailer also includes, but does not name Vic Darchynian, Andre Berto, Chris Eubank, Shannon Briggs, Miguel Cotto and a few others that I couldn't make out). There is seemingly a wide array of fighters and thankfully Don King didn't use the game as platform to market only the fighters in his stable (from what I see at the current moment).

The graphics are very similar to that of EA's boxing series, the only difference to me (without playing it) seems to be in the new and improved training stages.  I can't delve too deep into the game-play without actually..uh.. playing the game, so I will report back after the release date on June 10th.  The insider gaming magazines have given the game high praises so far, so we shall see soon enough.

Another Rescheduled: Walkin' on Broken Glass

Don't break open the piggy bank quite yet, the Pay-per-view fight that was scheduled for May 31st between "Sugar" Shane Mosley and Zab Judah is going to be postponed.  Zab Judah reportedly put his arm through the glass door of his shower and required 50 stitches to seal the wound. (your going to have to wait to blow your $54.99 for a couple extra weeks)

This is the second incident this year in which a top boxer had troubles with glass.  In between his bouts with Jermain Taylor, Kelly Pavlik was doing some work around the house and accidentally launched his arm through a glass window.  The injury required 100 stitches and threw a wrench in his training schedule for the fight.  However,  the bout was not rescheduled and Pavlik recovered from the injury to defeat Taylor for the second straight time.

These guys need to stay away from the glass objects before a fight or refrain from employing the training techniques used by Jean Claude Van Damme's character (Kurt Sloan) in the movie Kick Boxer (fists dipped in glass).
